--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Times Square, a new 2-player game from Reiner Knizia, is essentially several nested games of tug-of-war.
There are six pieces in the game, five of which you can control directly and one of which you control indirectly.

Champagne Charlie, that bottle shaped figure in the middle, should really be on the shaded track to the right.
Champagne Charlie is the one figure that cannot be directly manipulated. The other green figure is Saucy Sue.
If you get either one into one of your bar spaces (one of the two yellow spaces closest to your side of the board) you win instantly.

The two grey figures are Saucy Sue's bodyguards - Sue must always be between the two grey figures - she can't even share a space with them.
You cannot make a play that would violate this rule.
Thus to get Sue into your bar you need to get the closest bodyguard to you onto the closest space to you so Sue can get to the second closest space.

The yellow figure is Handsome Hal.
On your turn you can choose not to play cards and instead teleport Sue or one of her body guards to Handsome Hal's space (as long as you are still following the bodyguard/Sue rule above).
The red figure (Dancing Deb) cannot be moved in this fashion as she is wise to Hal's ways (says so in the rules!)

Dancing Deb, the aforementioned red figure, gives you more flexibility with your card play if she is between your side of the board and Saucy Sue.
If that condition is met you can play Dancing Deb cards as wildcards to move any other figure (except Champagne Charlie, of course).
The only other consideration is that you cannot use these cards as a wildcards on Saucy Sue if the movement results in Sue being on the same space or closer to you than Dancing Deb.

You always have eight cards in your hand and may play as many cards of the same color as you want on your turn - always drawing back up to eight.
Alternatively, as mentioned above, you can choose to not play cards and instead bring a bodyguard or Sue to Handsome Hal's space.
After your turn you get to pull Champagne Charlie over to your side of the board for every figure you have in your bar space.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The card mix is slightly different for each figure.
--- All of the Saucy Sue cards come in denomination 1, but can be used for two purposes.
You can use one Sue card to move Sue one space, or you can use a pair of Sue cards to move Sue and her bodyguards one space each (all in the same direction).
If you play three Sue cards on a turn you could move Sue three times or you could elect to move Sue once and also move the set of figures once.
--- The grey bodyguard cards come either in 1s (move one bodyguard one space), 1+1s (move one bodyguard twice or move each bodyguard once), and
-> <- ('snap' both bodyguards to the spaces immediately adjacent to Saucy Sue).
--- Both Dancing Deb and Handsome Hal have cards with a range of numbers on them, however Deb also has a sewer grate card which brings her (or another figure if used as a wild)
to the center space of the board.

The only restriction to card play other than what has already been mentioned is that you MUST spend all movement given on the cards you play.
For example, if one of the bodyguards is on the bar space closest to you you cannot play two Saucy Sue cards to move the set one space towards you as that bodyguard cannot move any closer.
You would need to move the set one space away from you or use the cards to just move Saucy Sue.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If neither player achieves an instant victory by drawing one of the green figures to his or her bar space by the time the deck has been exhausted twice,
the game ends and the player with Sue on his or her side wins.
If Sue is the middle the player with Charlie on his or her side wins. If Charlie is also in the middle the game ends in a draw.
