It has probably gone amiss everywhere except in Poland, but today marks the twentieth anniversary of the beginning of the end of communist domination of central and eastern Europe. On 6 February 1989 began the round table discussions between the government and opposition which led to partially free elections being held in Poland in June 1989. Not as dramatic as the flight of East Germans nor the collapse of the Berlin Wall or indeed that of Perestroyka which began the whole process, it is however being widely commented on in Poland.
